We trace the history of Roodepoort – with fabulous fables filled with prospectors and treasures – from its earliest beginnings. The third of a 12-part story looks at boom time in Roodepoort.

Public programmes

Tours last on average about an hour, and booking is essential. A guide is always present to accompany visitors and the tours are tailored to suit the needs and interests of each group.


Groups of up to 100 learners can be accommodated per day and worksheets are available at a small additional fee.


There are also photocopy facilities.



The museum has a specialist research library with the contents focusing on decorative arts and the history of Roodepoort.

Proceeds go towards the running of the museum and are administered through the Friends of Roodepoort Museum, a registered non-profit organisation (fundraising number 055 183)



Postcards and brochures are on sale.
The museum is wheelchair friendly.
Nearby are a number of restaurants and shops.



Parking is available next to the museum, on the edge of the square.
